RIGGS DC
Collateral design for Riggs DC, a hotel in the Penn Quarter area in Washington DC.
The building that houses the hotel was constructed in 1891 as headquarters for Riggs National Bank, also known as the Bank of Presidents. Lore Group, the parent company of Riggs, wanted to revive this iconic building, the last of its kind, for a new generation of travelers. Locals and visitors alike are invited to sip on globally-influenced cocktails at the Silver Lyan bar or eat at Café Riggs, inspired by the grand brasseries of Europe.
Design Army worked with the hotel to expand on the existing logo that would embrace and express the building’s contemporary new voice, that is rooted in the history of the city. The need to acknowledge and celebrate the building’s original roots was very important. This is achieved in the contrast and collision of elegant typography, with white space.
Great emphasis was laid by a simple color palette, with the support of a san serif typeface. This ran across a plethora of printed and digital assets such as business cards, menus, coasters, vouchers, luggage tags, postcards, etc. Several sales assets were also developed, such as email templates, banners and social media posts as well as hotel & wedding fact sheets and brochures.
